Through my travels, I’ve explored some of the most incredible yet underrated kitesurfing destinations—places where the adventure is just as exciting as the kiting itself. These spots offer perfect conditions, stunning scenery, and a chance to experience something truly unique. If you love chasing the wind and uncovering new horizons, keep reading.

Wind: The best kitesurfing season runs from May to October, with steady trade winds (SE) ranging between 15-25 knots.

Tides: The shifting sandbanks and tidal changes create dynamic riding conditions, revealing stunning shallow lagoons perfect for cruising.

Pristine & Uncrowded: Unlike mainstream kite spots, Bazaruto is wild and untouched—expect to have entire lagoons to yourself.
Diverse Riding Styles: From protected flat water behind the islands to rolling waves on the outer reefs, it suits all styles.
Marine Life: It’s part of a marine national park, so expect to see dolphins, dugongs, manta rays, and even whaleswhile you ride!

• Access: Flights to Vilankulo (VNX), then a short boat ride to Bazaruto.

• Best Setup: Bring 9-12m kites for the best coverage in wind conditions.



🏝️ Sakalava Bay, Madagascar – The Wild & Untamed


Madagascar is an underrated kitesurfing destination, but for those in the know, Sakalava Bay and Babaomby are absolute treasures. These two spots, located in the northern region near Diego Suarez, offer steady winds, crystal-clear lagoons, and world-class conditions for kitesurfers of all levels.

Best for: Freestyle, beginners, wave riding
Wind season: April to November, SE trade winds (15-40 knots)

Why ride here?
✅ Huge shallow lagoon – Ideal for beginners and freestyle riders who love butter-flat water.
✅ Wave spots at the reef – If you love waves, there’s an outer reef break where you can ride small to medium waves.
✅ Consistent, strong winds – Expect reliable wind every day, often starting early in the morning.
✅ Laid-back kite vibe – A few kite camps make it a social yet peaceful spot, away from the crowds.

Tips: Bring 7-10m kites, as the wind can be strong. You can stay at one of the kite lodges right on the beach.




🌍 Coche Island, Venezuela – The Caribbean’s Best-Kept Secret




Best for: Freeride, freestyle, beginners
Wind season: November to June (strongest from January to May)
Wind range: 15-25 knots (side-onshore)
Water conditions: Super flat, warm, shallow

Why Coche Island?

Coche is one of the best flatwater kitesurfing spots in the Caribbean, offering butter-flat conditions, reliable wind, and a chilled-out island vibe. It’s part of Venezuela’s Los Roques archipelago and sits just a short boat ride from Margarita Island. Unlike Margarita’s wavier conditions, Coche is a freestyle paradise with endless space to ride.

Kitesurfing Conditions

The main kitespot is right in front of Hotel Punta Blanca, where most kiters stay. It has waist-deep water, perfect for beginners and pros alike. The best kiting happens in the morning and early afternoon, as the wind tends to be strongest then.

Bring 9m-12m kites for most days, but smaller riders might want a 7m for stronger wind days.

While the island is mostly known for kitesurfing, you can also enjoy:

Why Aitutaki?

Imagine kitesurfing in one of the most beautiful lagoons on the planet—Aitutaki is exactly that. Located in the Cook Islands, this hidden gem is famous for its electric blue water, untouched beaches, and world-class kitesurfing conditions.

Kitesurfing Conditions

The best kitesurfing happens on the sandbanks and motus (tiny islands) inside the Aitutaki lagoon. The main kitespot is at Honeymoon Island, where the water is ridiculously flat, making it perfect for learning, foiling, or sending big air tricks. The wind is usually 15-25 knots, steady and predictable, with the best kiting hours being from mid-morning to late afternoon.

Bring 9m-12m kites for the most common conditions, but a 7m can be useful on stronger days.

While kitesurfing is the highlight, Aitutaki offers more than just wind:
